About IAM RoadSmart
IAM Roadsmart has been the primary voice of advanced motorists for over 60 years. Since 1956, this charity has driven a mission of road safety and of improving the skills of drivers and riders alike. With over 200 IAM RoadSmart groups and 1000’s of IAM volunteers, the coverage of this organisation is truly extensive. IAM Roadsmart is ‘supported’ through the annual fees of over 90,000 members. IAM RoadSmart advanced motorcycle training is probably the most popular advanced rider course in the UK.
IAM Roadsmart offers advanced qualification through their Advanced Rider course. Courses are delivered by trained IAM volunteers and facilitated via the network of local IAM Roadsmart groups. Generally it takes three to six months to complete IAM RoadSmart advanced motorcycle training and along with the initial course fee, participants are required to contribute to the fuel costs of the volunteer observers. This progressive and observed approach leads to greater confidence, improved riding skills, enhanced rider safety and an opportunity for participants to gain an advanced riding qualification by taking the IAM RoadSmart Advanced Motorcycle Riding Test. Qualified advanced riders are in their minority (1% of motorcycle riders).
